By Josh Treuhaft
The MTA Lions emerged victorious, 49-42, in a nail-biter against the Frisch Cougars in Paramus on Thursday, December 5th, thanks to standout performances and clutch plays on both ends of the floor.
Josh Treuhaft Shines for MTA
Josh Treuhaft was unstoppable for the Lions, finishing with an impressive 17 points and 15 rebounds. He controlled the paint with his rebounding and scoring but also showed his shooting range, hitting two big three-pointers in the second quarter to energize his team.
Isaac Stepner Leads Frisch
Frisch’s star sophomore, Isaac Stepner, put on a show, displaying his scoring ability and confidence. Stepner was a constant threat, hitting key shots to keep the Cougars in the game and proving why he’s one of the league’s rising stars.
Yishai Neiss Comes Up Clutch
When it mattered most, MTA’s point guard, Yishai Neiss, delivered. A late-game steal and layup gave the Lions the lead, and his calm free throws in the final seconds sealed the win. Neiss also ran the offense brilliantly all game, proving himself as a true floor general.
Gavi Engel Dominates Defensively
Defensively, Gavi Engel was a force for MTA. His physical play and rebounding kept Frisch from gaining an edge inside, while his ability to contest shots and secure boards gave the Lions crucial stops.
A Hard-Fought Victory
Both teams battled until the final buzzer, with Frisch relying on Stepner’s offense and MTA leaning on Treuhaft’s dominance, Neiss’ poise, and Engel’s defensive grit. In the end, MTA’s balance and clutch plays earned them a well-deserved win in this exciting matchup.
